St. Ignatius - a Baker's Dozen

It occurred to me to count how many St. Ignatius statues I have made so far. The total came to thirteen. One original for the client to keep and twelve so far for them to give out. Just for fun, here they are: 2021 2020 2019 2018 2017 2016 2015 2014 2013 2012 2011 2010 - first copy 2010 - original

Christus Rex Processional Cross Design

This is a design sketch for a Christus Rex processional cross.   The design is inspired by a carving made by Ludwig Kieninger . The proposal is to carve the corpus about 15 inch tall from basswood and finish with a color and technique similar to this carving:

Relief Carving of Mary

Image
Here is an old photo of a carving I made as a teenager studying with master woodcarver  Ludwig Kieninger . It was based on a carving Ludwig made and one can certainly see his influence. For me, it brings back memories and reminds me of how my work developed over time.

North Texas Woodcarving Guild Show 2019

Image
Last weekend was the 2019 North Texas Woodcarving Guild Spring show at the Grapevine Convention Center. Attendance was up this year and there were many great works on display. I enjoy encouraging carvers and spreading interest in the art form. I spent most of the time answering questions about carving and providing some impromptu instruction. The side effect of so much activity is that I did not get many photos of all there was to see. One photo I did get was of Jody Webb's table with the three first place ribbons he won. Congratulations Jody! If you made it to the show, I'd love to hear your thoughts. If you did not make it, I hope to see you there next year.
