Ludwig Kieninger
Ludwig Kieninger was born in Passau, Bavaria. During his schooling in Bavaria, early in his life, his talent for the arts, and wood carving especially, was discovered.
At the age of fourteen, he became apprenticed to Jacob Chritel and Ludwig Pinsker, both renowned masters in Germany. He also studied art in all aspects under Professor of Art Hans Krater in Munich. Under the guidance of these masters, Ludwig earned the title of Master Sculptor in stone and wood in 1948.
After continuing his artistry in Bavaria, Kieninger emigrated to Santiago, Chile in 1953, where he remained very active in his art until 1959. At that time, he emigrated to Muenster, Texas, and became known throughout the Southwest as the Woodcarver of Muenster.
To provide more convenience for his customers and a more central location for demands placed on him to teach, Kieninger came to the Dallas area in University Park in 1975. He later moved his working and teaching studio to DeSoto, Texas, just south of Dallas.
Ludwig's work varies in size and shape, but emphasis is ecclesiastical art, often in life size dimensions. His work can be found in cathedrals in Germany and in many churches in South America and in the U.S.A. He also completed many commercial works throughout the Southwest as well as restoration and repairs on many antiques.
Ludwig Kieninger passed away February 12th, 2014.
