Ludwig Kieninger Carving at Jesuit College Preparatory School

Image
I wanted to share a carving by Ludwig Kieninger that is at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas . One of the special features of Jesuit Dallas is that they have an art museum in the school. Hundreds of pieces by well known artist are on display throughout the school. You can even take a docent guided tour . Here you can see the full Kieninger piece hanging on the wall. One unusual thing I noticed is Ludwig signed this piece on the front with his last name spelled out. Usually you would only see the "LK" initials on the front of his carvings. Have you been to the Jesuit Dallas Museum? If so, what did you think of it?

In Memory of Ludwig Kieninger

Image
Ludwig Kieninger passed away earlier this month. I spent may years studying woodcarving with Ludwig Kieninger. Many of my current students previously studied with him as well. He was a talented and fascinating man and all who knew him will miss him. In addition to some of the photos of Ludwig Kienger  and his work on my web site,  in loving memory, I wanted to post some additional photos that I have gathered over the years. From the Bavarian Woodcarving Studio in DeSoto, TX A young, dapper Ludwig Kieninger I have no idea how Danny convinced him to wear that hat. At Jesuit College Preparatory School in Dallas, TX

Stations of the Cross by Ludwig Kieninger

Image
I recently had the opportunity to meet with some great people over at All Saints Catholic Church to see a set of Stations of the Cross carved by Ludwig Kieninger . These stations were carved for All Saints in the late 1970's. The stations are mounted up on the wall going around the church as can be seen in this photo from the church website. Unfortunately, my photos did not turn out as well as I had hoped. The color fidelity is not that good. Still, I hope you will enjoy having a look. If you are a parishioner of All Saints, leave a comment and let me know what these carvings have meant to you.

Someone recently sent me some photos of a last supper that was carved by Ludwig Kieninger . The carving is 36 1/2" wide by 21" high. Framed, it is 44" wide & 28 1/2 " high. They let me know that this carving is currently for sale. If you are interested, please let me know and I will get you in touch with the current owner. As some of you know, I studied woodcarving under Ludwig Kieninger for many years. I always enjoy seeing photos of his work. It really brings back memories. If you happen to have any pictures of Ludwig's work, I would love to see them.
